At the point when one practices Dharma, one is rehearsing the lessons of Buddha and shielding oneself from affliction and wiping out obliviousness, accordingly working on one’s personal satisfaction. These lessons were depicted as a wheel since they move and travel all through the land and afterward individuals can rehearse command over their minds and not get affected by the cycle of birth and rebirth. In the hands of Lord Vishnu, the wheel is adorned as a weapon. The God of preservation protects every individual using his Dharma Chakra , otherwise known as Sudarshan.
The wheels of Sun temple at Konark were being utilised as sundials to calculate time with absolute precision up to a minute both during day and night. The sundial has 8 major spokes that devide 24 hours in to 8 equal parts( time gap between two major spokes is 3hrs). There are 8 minor spokes as well. Each minor spoke runs between two major spokes. The time gap between one major spoke and a minor spoke 1.5 hours. Again there are 30 beads in between one major and one minor spoke, so one bead is equivalent to 3 mins…One has to place his/her finger at the center of the axle and the shadow of the finger on the outer periphery of the wheel indicates the time of the day at that moment.

(These are iron beams kept in the premises of Sun temple at Konark. It seems as if a large number of smaller iron square bars have been joined to build huge iron beams.(???) . Apart from khandolite and Chlorite rocks , iron beams and clamps have been used in the construction of temples. So the use iron ore and their crude metallurgical treatment over 800 years back is apparent…)

Incredible Wheel of Konark Sun Temple
There are several unsolved mysteries having no unanimity regarding the following aspects till date as far as the Sun temple at Konark is concerned. Several researchers have written innumerable reports regarding the literary sources( including legendary, mythological and travel accounts of foreign travellers of early times) epigraphic sources, numismatic evidences, excavations etc. all centered on the Sun Temple at Konark, but nothing concrete and unanimous has come out about the following aspects….
# when the main curvilinear tower of the temple got collapsed?
# the reason behind the collapse of the temple?
# the elephant found subdued lying crushed below the lion!! What may be the possible reason behind it?
# Though there was no source of Khandolite rocks in the nearby areas, but it is always awe-inspiring to think that such huge amount of rocks were being brought to the temple building site from far-off areas through rafts( made of huge logs of timber fastened together and used as a floating platform) may be through Prachi / Kadua River which is dead now…
# use of large pieces of magnets in the temple construction for which the main Sun idol was in a floating condition just above the high raised pedestal of the Sun God inside the sanctum sanctorum. And again the lodestone magnet installed on the top of the sanctom sanctorum was capable of dragging the ships sailing in the coastal areas towards the coast , leading to shipwrecks !!! How far was this true?
# Both the Sun God ( SURYA) in KONARK and the SunGod in karnak( meditarranean coast) in Egypt are lying in nearby latitude…. Konark : 19°53′27″N 86°06′01″E
Karnak : 25°43′7″ N 32°39′31″E
The latitudinal difference is only 6 deg which is not much. Again the latitude of Modhera Sun temple( Gujarat ) is 23.5 degree north. There must be a reason behind it…
several other similarities are also there.. what may be the possible reasons behind it???
Here is an image of Sun God being displayed in the on-site museum( ASI) at Konark..
etcetera……….
